Living in a property within a Conservation Area does mean that certain additional works to any building or within the grounds are covered by extra planning controls. Some Councils even have stronger controls through a power known as an Article 4 Direction and this takes away the normal ability to do small scale alterations or extensions.
It is very important to understand what you can and cannot do without requiring a formal planning permission. The Conservation Area status means that the works will also be considered in the light of how they impact on the wider area in addition to your own building.
